Microsoft Build

If you Build it, Microsoft will come

Laying a foundation in the early years of Microsoft Build

Build is an annual event held by Microsoft, geared towards giving developers deep training on Microsoft platforms. For the first year, Microsoft asked my team to take the Microsoft branding and put together a series of assets to support the event. The next year, my team was asked again to modernize the branding for an all-new year. Here I was responsible for developing a brand style guide for the conference, alongside various assets for the tradeshow. Our objective was simple... deconstruct the Build logo and repurpose those design elements in a way that was both minimalistic and also visually engaging. The result was one of Microsoft's most impactful years for the Build conference. Years later, Build would go on to absorb many of Microsoft's smaller networking events, becoming the premier conference for the technology giant.

Who said corporate can't be creative?

Event sponsored tshirts are often overrated - however for this premiere conference, I wanted to highlight Microsoft's new "metro" mobile interface which was to be unveiled at the event. As such, I designed a visually compelling tshirt that conveyed motion and got the crowd excited. Thankfully, the graphic tee was all the rage at the event.

Way Finding Signage

Digital displays and event highlights

With an all-new touch-interface, I was responsible for leading the team that designed the event's video kiosks. These kiosks displayed way-finding signage, keynote speaker information, and bootcamp breakout sessions to help provide attendees valuable information.

Microsoft's unveils their first event driven mobile interface

With Android and Apple cornering the mobile market, Microsoft wanted to differentiate themselves by offering an event-driven mobile app exclusively available on the Microsoft store for this year's Build. The idea was to provide conference-related content to attendees who signed-up to try Microsoft's new Windows Phone. My team and I were responsible for designing the user experience of this application.

Not just any event landing page

This year's Microsoft event was special because it was the first time the technology giant was sharing their new vision for the future of Windows. Build came to my team and me to build their event site which needed to highlight this early concept as much as possible - here attendees could register and get a sneak peek of what was to come.
